I find inspiration from various things around me - all things design (ofcourse); music; travels to new places; observing people; books; good food; art; photographs...
Besides tangible experiences (via formal projects, education, training, workshop etc), there are plenty of 'intangible' experiences I have gained over the years too. I like to believe, these can add a lot of 'value' to a professional like me.
- Working in a globally distributed and culturally diverse team. Cultural diversity in a workplace is exciting and challenging at the same time.
- Working in a start up - it involves doing the core task of 'design' to fixing the broken coffee machine in the office yourself. Complete 'hands-on' experience.
- Establishing a Design team and design processes, growing the team within a large corporation - Internal marketing; building relationships; recruitment; fighting battles...an uphill task.
- Being a 'grassroots innovator' in a large corporation - making the idea visible; convincing the right people; seeking internal collaborators; making a proof of concept...productizing it. In a conventional corporate culture it is hard to do all of this besides the core/officially assigned tasks.
- Deep insights into end users of business software across the world. I have met end users of business applications in multiple countries and am convinced that the world of business software is far behind the wave of 'consumer apps.' In this world, technological advancements are not being leveraged to address the day-to-day "USAGE" and "WORKING" challenges faced by the end users. I am coninved there is enormous potential for innovation in this space.
- I am constantly reading and keeping myself abreast with things happening in the world.
